The second half of this term has been filled with a range of exciting learning.

English

In English, we have finished writing our transformation tale based on The Great Kapok Tree. The children have immersed themselves in the story through drama and poetry. They have enjoyed getting into the role of the various different creatures of the rainforest and have consequently written some incredible pieces of writing. The Year 3 teachers have been impressed with the children’s attitude towards the subject of deforestation. It has been great to hear about how much they care for the environment.

Maths

Within our maths lessons, the children have been exploring money. Throughout this unit, each class has been given the opportunity to handle coins which have helped to bring their learning to life. They have learnt how to convert pounds into pence as well as how to add and subtract amounts of money.

Topic

Our Year 3 historians went on an exciting journey through time when they explored Stone Age caves. After looking at artefacts, they showed us their artistic talents and produced some fantastic cave art. See the pictures below!

Science

As part of our learning about animals (including humans), we have been investigating the diets of different animals. Recently, Year 3 were lucky enough to have the brilliant opportunity to dissect real owl pellets. Some of the discoveries were fascinating. From rodent skulls to bird beaks to shrew vertebrae, the children were shocked by what they found.
