Computing at Wigmore runs from Reception through to Year 6. Children learn to think like programmers, to use technology with confidence, and to look after themselves online.
We follow Purple Mash by 2Simple. Every year group from Year 1 to Year 6 has a Computing lesson every week, 36 across the year.
3 strands · 36 lessons a year · Reception to Year 6
The three strands
The National Curriculum splits Computing into three strands. Children work across all three, every year.
Computer science
How computers work, and how to make them do what you want. Children write and debug their own programs, work with algorithms, and learn how networks and the internet carry information.
Information technology
Using technology to make things and solve problems. Children create music, animations, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and 3D models, and learn to pick the right tool for the job.
Digital literacy
Using technology safely and responsibly. Children learn to judge what they find online, protect their own information, and treat other people well on the internet.
What your child learns, year by year
Reception
Computing in Reception is built into the EYFS areas of learning rather than taught as separate units. Children meet it through communication and language, expressive arts and design, literacy, mathematics, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, and understanding the world.

Staying safe online
Online safety sits inside Computing, and children meet it every year through the digital literacy strand. They learn how to spot what is trustworthy, how to keep their own information private, and what to do when something online worries them.
Safer Internet Day falls every February, and the whole school takes part. If you have a concern about anything your child has seen or done online, please tell us. We would always rather hear about it early.
