All staff and governors at Wigmore Primary School fully recognise that they have a duty to ensure arrangements are in place for safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of child (Section 175 of the Education Act 2002). We adhere to the Local Authority’s Safeguarding Children Board Procedures and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this common commitment.

If you are concerned about the safety of any child in our school, you must report this to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or a member of the Safeguarding Team. If you are concerned about the conduct of a member of staff or volunteer in our school, you must contact the Headteacher.

Operation Encompass

Our school takes part in an operation that runs jointly with Bedfordshire Police and Luton Children’s Social Care.

Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur in which a child was present, ordinarily resides at the incident location or with an involved party. We know that children can be significantly affected through witnessing or being exposed to domestic abuse and this operation will allow us to better support our pupils and their families.

A nominated member of staff, known as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC), is identified to receive the information. At our school our SPOC is Mrs Godfrey (Safeguarding Lead). She will be able to use information that has been shared with her, in confidence, to ensure that the right support is available should it be required by a child.

We are keen to offer the best support available to our pupils. Parents with any concerns or questions can contact Mrs Godfrey or any of the other Deputy Safeguarding Leads, who will be happy to help.
