Year 2 have had a busy yet exciting half term learning lots of interesting things! Let’s take a look at the wonderful learning that has been taking place…

Reading:

Children have enjoyed reading the story “Flat Stanley” by Jeff Brown in our Reading Sessions. Stanley Lambchop is an ordinary boy with an extraordinary problem. One night, a giant pinboard fell on top of him leaving him completely flat. Year 2 enjoyed reading about his adventures and they were able to discuss the sequence of events. They were able to discuss the character’s thoughts and feelings about Stanley’s strange predicament.

Have a look at an example of the amazing work produced below:

Writing:

In English we decided to go for a walk in our Nature Reserve area. Children were astonished when they discovered a mysterious bag that had a GOLDEN watch inside. They were absolutely intrigued at their finding. Children made their own predictions as to where it came from, who it might belong to and what to do next!

Later on, back in our classrooms we created a plan and wrote a recount of our AMAZING discovery! Have a look at some of our fantastic work below:

Maths:

In Maths this week we have started our new unit – Multiplication and Division (2). This week we will focusing on dividing by 2,5 and 10.

Science:

For Science, the children went outside and found a range of minibeasts in various micro-habitats. We found out that some minibeasts favour the damp, dark conditions under a log or
in leaf litter, while others prefer being higher up on a tree branch where it is light.

Here are some of our wonderful discoveries:

Topic:

In Topic, children compared “Human and Physical Geographical Features”. They were able to explain as we look around our local area, the things that we see are either created by nature or by humans.

Art:

In Art, children were able to use their observational skills to draw a range of fruits.

Next half term, in English we will be creating an information booklet about “The Storm Owl”. We will be continuing with our “Fruits of the World” topic and will look at the journey a banana. We will also be creating our very own Fruit Kebab for Design and Technology. In Science, we will look at how Plants grow. We will also be planting our very own Cress seeds to investigate what plants require to grow healthily.

On a final note, we have been ever so impressed with the children’s hard work and dedication in ALL areas of the Curriculum. We thank you for your continued support towards your child’s learning journey. We hope you have a LOVELY half term break! 🙂
