Reading and writing
This half term so far we have been studying persuasive writing in the form of a letter. The subject of the letter was deforestation and looking after the rainforest and all its creatures. The children are currently writing their own persuasive letter from endangered animals.
We have started some new texts to Year 4 and have been working on our comprehension skills.
The texts are; One Plastic Bag, Krindlekrax, and Ug: Boy Genius of the Stone Age.
Maths
We have been doing lots of work on addition and subtraction, including mental methods. The children are able to use column method, partitioning and part whole model to help with solving their calculations.
We are continuing to learn our times tables in readiness for the statutory test in June. Children are making good progress towards this and we encourage them to continue learning these at home.
Science
Children are thoroughly enjoying our new topic of sound, where so far we have learnt about how sound travels.
In Music, the children have really enjoyed playing the glockenspiels and are starting to develop their ability to read and interpret simple sheet music. They are also beginning to understand and use the correct musical terminology.
Over the next few weeks the sequence of learning will focus on:
English – Writing a portal story based on a picture book (wordless book), called Journey.
Maths – We will be looking at addition and subtraction problem solving, perimeter and multiplication and division.
Science – In science we will be looking at the structure of the ear and also which materials make good insulators.
RE – We are looking at a variety of ways in which different cultures/religions worship.
Look at what we have been doing in Year 4!
