Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a truly wonderful start to the Summer Term. The arrival of the fantastic spring weather has brought a renewed energy to the playground, and it has been a pleasure to see our school community thriving in the sunshine over the last two weeks.
Exploring Our Local Community
I have been delighted to hear that so many of our children have already visited the new Wigmore Valley Park. Our school was honored to take part in the official opening ceremony recently. If you haven’t had the chance to visit yet, I highly recommend heading there after school or over the weekend; it is a brilliant local asset for our families to enjoy.
The Value of Challenge: Wembley to Wigmore
This half-term, we officially launched our new school value: Challenge. This ties in perfectly with our ambitious school fundraiser.
Our goal is to raise £12,000 to make much-needed improvements to our school playground. While this is a big target, we have started incredibly strong! By working together, we can make this dream a reality for our children.
- Training Begins: This weekend, our group of parents, staff, and governors will head out for their first official training walk. We are getting the “miles in the legs” ahead of our Wembley to Wigmore mega-challenge on June 13th.
- Inspiration from the Pros: Mr. Marshall and Mr. Whadcoat recently took a group of children to Wembley for the England vs. Spain match. The children were fascinated to learn that adults will be walking that very distance back to school to support their play spaces!
Attendance and Punctuality
A huge thank you to the families who consistently park respectfully around the school, utilise the Asda car park, and arrive promptly when our doors open at 8:45 am.
While we have recently adjusted our register closing times to align with other local schools, we are still looking for an overall improvement in punctuality.
Our goal is simple: Strive to arrive at 8:45 am!
The impact of our recent “Do Something Different Day” was excellent, and it was a joy to see the children so engaged in unique activities. Let’s keep that momentum going!
Celebrating Progress and Supporting Writing
It was wonderful to see so many of you in school last week for our Parents’ Evenings. I also appreciated the opportunity to meet with a group of parents in the hall to discuss the recent parent survey results and our next steps.
This week, I have been reviewing children’s writing across the school. The progress and effort are clear to see! To help maintain this momentum, here are a few ways you can support writing at home:
- Keep it Purposeful: Encourage children to write shopping lists, thank-you notes, or cards for birthdays.
- Journaling: Buy a special notebook for your child to record their weekend adventures or “Spring observations.”
- The “Slow Writing” Challenge: Ask your child to write just three sentences about a picture, but challenge them to use one “ambitious” adjective in each.
- Read to Write: Discussing the books you read together helps children understand story structure and vocabulary, which naturally flows into their own writing.
School News and Transitions
- Reception Places: Last week, families received their Reception allocations. If you know of any families new to the area still seeking a school place, please do encourage them to get in touch with our office.
- Year 4 Adventures: A huge “well done” to Year 4, who had a fantastic (and very chocolatey!) trip to Cadbury World this week.
- Year 6 Dedication: Our Year 6 pupils are working incredibly hard in the lead-up to their SATs. Their focus and productivity during these first two weeks of term have been exemplary.
- In our assembly today, we spent time learning about St George’s Day. It was a wonderful opportunity to discuss the history and legends associated with the patron saint of England, focusing on the themes of bravery and chivalry.
- A special thank you to all the children who came to school today wearing their Scouting and Guiding uniforms. It was fantastic to see you representing these organisations with such pride, and it served as a great reminder of the many ways our pupils and staff contribute to our wider community and take on personal challenges outside of the classroom.

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!
At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially. We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.
Every minute of every lesson counts!
Be in to win!
Be on time and in school every day!
