We have been very busy again in Year 2 this week!
We celebrated World Book Day and it was fabulous to see the children all dressed up as their favourite book characters. We enjoyed sharing books, completing book quizzes and writing about what we dressed up as.
Have a look at some of our wonderful costumes below:
The children have all settled back into school after the half term break.
This week in English, we have started to use a story map to describe “The Storm Owl”. In the next few weeks, we will be making changes to the text. We also created a toolkit to help us identify the features of a non-chronological report.
In Maths this week children learnt how to read and
construct tally charts and pictograms.
Here is some key vocabulary that children will need to know as part of the learning in this “Statistics” unit:
tally chart, tally
pictogram
block diagram
table
more, less, most, least
favourite, popular
equal
represent, symbol, key, information
total, altogether
compare
In Science this half term we have started our topic: “The Wonderful World Of Plants”. This week we planted cress seeds. We placed one pot in a dark place and the other on a window sill to investigate whether plants require sunlight to grow. We will be observing the results over the next few weeks. Children will be drawing each stage of the plant’s growth cycle.
In Topic we have been learning about “The Journey of a Banana”. Have a look at some of the children’s amazing work produced below:
Over the next couple of weeks we will be:
– We are going to be working on our Non-Chronological Report about Owls.
– In Maths, we will be continuing our focus on Statistics interpreting Pictograms.
– In Science, we will be looking at the life cycle of Plants.
– In Topic, we will be designing and creating our very own Fruit Kebabs.
Many thanks for your continued support.
The Year 2 Team.
