Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope everyone is enjoying the fantastic weather that has been on offer. Some of the sunrises and sunsets have been amazing and it is always great to spend time outside for our health and well-being.
It has been a wonderfully busy two weeks across the school, and one of the absolute highlights for me has been visiting classrooms to see learning in action. During my visits, my main focus has been observing how effectively our teachers are checking the children’s understanding using a range of new strategies they have been embedding into their practice.
It was a joy to see how engaged the pupils were. Their focus and listening in class were exemplary, and the children were able to talk openly and articulate their thinking clearly when asked about what they were learning. Alongside classroom visits, I have spent time looking through the children’s books and speaking directly with them about their work. It is always inspiring to hear them talk with such pride about the progress they are making.
Sporting Achievements
It has also been an incredibly energetic fortnight on the sports front, with pupils representing our school across a variety of events:
- Luton Schools Cross Country: Excellent determination and stamina on display from all our runners.
- Year 1 to 4 Multisports Festival: A fantastic day hosted at Inspire Sports Centre, where our younger pupils showed brilliant teamwork and enthusiasm.
- Year 5 and 6 Rugby Festival: A competitive and fun event held at Luton Rugby Club.
Having played rugby myself for a number of years and throughout my childhood, I know firsthand what a fantastic sport rugby is for young people to get involved in. Beyond the physical benefit, the sport is built on strong values that translate directly into everyday life and the classroom:
- Teamwork: Learning that success comes from supporting one another and working toward a shared goal.
- Respect: Valuing opponents, teammates, and officials alike, both on and off the pitch.
- Enjoyment: Finding genuine fun and healthy excitement through effort and active participation.
- Discipline: Developing self-control, focus, and adherence to rules under pressure.
- Sportsmanship: Winning with grace, losing with dignity, and holding integrity above all else.
Seeing our pupils demonstrate these exact attributes across all three sporting events makes me immensely proud.
Thank you as always to our staff for organising these opportunities, and to parents and carers for your continued support.

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!
At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially. We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.
Every minute of every lesson counts!
Be in to win!
Be on time and in school every day!
