Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the end of another busy and fulfilling fortnight, I am delighted to share some of the incredible highlights and learning experiences our children have enjoyed across the school.

Celebrating Black History & Culture

Over the past two weeks, year groups across the school have teamed up to learn about the remarkable contributions that Black individuals have made, and continue to make, to our society. I had the privilege of teaching in Year 4 and Year 6 one afternoon, working through some beautifully thought-out activities. It was a wonderful opportunity to see our pupils engaging so thoughtfully with history, achievement, and culture.

Hands-On History

Our curriculum has truly come alive recently with fantastic enrichment activities across the year groups:

  • Year 1’s Nene Park Visit: Our youngest trip-goers represented the school brilliantly during their outing to Nene Park. The children’s behavior was exceptional throughout the day. A huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers who supported this experience!
  • Year 4 Roman Day & Year 6 Greek Day: Both year groups stepped back in time for special themed days. These immersive events were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved and provided a brilliant, memorable way to consolidate their learning about these pivotal historical eras.

Sporting Spirit and Success

It has been a fantastic couple of weeks on the sports field! Our pupils have shown fantastic teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship in both Rugby and Sportshall Athletics. Congratulations to all participants for their hard-earned success, and a big thank you to the staff and parents supporting our sporting events.

Mental Health & Well-being

Last week, our school shone bright as we wore Yellow for World Mental Health Day. Alongside raising awareness, our pupils explored the essential pillars of maintaining positive mental health:

  • Exercise – Keeping our bodies moving
  • Diet – Fueling ourselves with balanced nutrition
  • Sleep – Resting our minds and bodies
  • Continuous Learning – Keeping our minds curious and engaged

Standing Together: Show Racism the Red Card

Today, our school community wore Red to take a clear, collective stand as we give racism the red card. Racism is rooted in hatred, and hate has no place in our community. We are committed to ensuring our children grow up in an inclusive, respectful environment where every individual is valued, regardless of their background. Together, we will continue to nurture a united and welcoming school culture.

Looking Ahead

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Please note that our October half-term break arrives at the end of next week. Some other local schools finish this week, it is important that your child is in school every day next week, regardless of other schools being closed for the week.

  • School Resumes: Monday, 2nd November at 8:45 AM

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!

At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially.  We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.

Every minute of every lesson counts!

Be in to win!

Be on time and in school every day!
