Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to a brand new half term! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half-term break. It has been lovely hearing about the autumnal activities, family time, and Halloween activities our children enjoyed over the holiday. There is a fantastic energy around the school as we settle back into our learning routines.

Happy Diwali!

To all our families celebrating, I would like to wish you a very Happy Diwali. We hope this festival of lights brings warmth, joy, peace, and prosperity to your homes and families.

Welcoming Our New Parent Governor

I am delighted to share that Penny Whelan has joined us as our new Parent Governor. Penny will be a fantastic addition to our governing body, bringing valuable perspectives to help us maintain a supportive yet challenging environment where our school can continue to thrive. Please join me in giving Penny a warm welcome to the team!

Early Years & The SHREC Approach

Our Early Years team has recently undertaken training on the SHREC approach—an evidence-based framework designed to enrich language development:

  • Share attention
  • Have a conversation
  • Respond
  • Expand
  • Converse

By embedding these techniques into daily classroom interactions, our staff are helping our youngest learners build strong communication skills, confidence, and vocabulary right from the start of their school journey.

Preparing Children for the Future: AI & Ethics

As technology evolves, we want to ensure our children are equipped to navigate it wisely. I have been meeting with Mr. Owusu to explore an AI apprenticeship initiative he is completing. Our focus is on how our pupils can safely and ethically harness artificial intelligence, learning to use these powerful digital tools responsibly as part of a modern education. I look forward to sharing our learning related to AI this academic year.

Reminders

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!

At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially.  We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.

Every minute of every lesson counts!

Be in to win!

Be on time and in school every day!
