25th January 2023Simon Marshall

Terrific throwing skills on show in yr.4. Pupils looked into throwing with more power and what we can change in their technique to help this. Pupils also discussed the importance of accuracy and the perfect throw combines both power and accuracy.

Superb effort from our yr.6 football team who competed in the EFL school’s county finals. Sadly wasn’t quite our day and we narrowly missed out on the semi finals. We finished the tournament winning 2, drawing 2 and loosing 1. Very proud of the whole teams effort.

Luton School Games (Autumn 1)

4th November 2022Simon Marshall

A very busy start to the Luton schools games programme here at Wigmore Primary. Below is information about all events attended this half term, with more to come. Huge thank you all staff, parents, children for making attending these events possible. As a school we believe these are hugely beneficial for our pupils and they learn and develop so much from participating.

We attended 7 events including Cross country, multi sports festivals, boys / girls rugby and sports hall athletics. Nearly 100 pupils represented the school at these events. Wigmore achieved huge successes in both the cross country and the rugby events, winning these events and we qualified for the sportshall athletics town finals.

PE 22/23

7th September 2022Simon Marshall

Dear Parents/Carers,

As the new School year begins we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents/carers of our PE kit and explain about our ‘PE ready’ expectations.

PE will start from the 1st day back in school (Monday 5th September).

From September all pupils will be required to come to school in their PE kit on their PE days. Pupils are to wear an outdoor kit consisting of a royal blue t-shirt or plain white t-shirt, black or navy tracksuit bottoms or shorts. Pupils must also wear their royal blue school jumper / fleece / cardigan. Suitable trainers needed also. On days with bad weather we will may look to do PE outside so a rain jacket and spare trainers will be required.

Please could we remind you that it is essential for all pupils to wear appropriate kit for their PE lessons to ensure personal hygiene and safety.

During PE lessons children are not allowed to wear jewellery of any kind, including watches, necklaces and earrings, please ensure these can be removed or safely secured ready for PE.

Consideration will be given to requests for adaptation of PE kit for religious purposes, in line with the guidance of AFPE.

Kit should include:

  • Royal Blue or white t-shirt
  • Blue or Black shorts
  • Blue or Black Tracksuit bottoms
  • Pupils must wear their WPS or royal blue school jumper / fleece / cardigan
  • Trainers and socks (This is essential for your child’s safety and they will not be able to participate without appropriate footwear)
  • On days with bad weather we will still look to do PE outside so a rain jacket and spare trainers will be required.

New PE staff member

We welcome Mr Whadcoat to our PE team. He has many years’ experience teaching PE in other local primary schools and will be an excellent addition to our team.

Extra-Curricular clubs

We will be starting our wide range of extra-curricular clubs starting W/C 12/9/22 with further information with timetable and sign up instructions will be emailed beginning of next week.

Flexible Day

Built in the PE timetable is a flexible day. PE may have to move days during the week because as a school we participate in many sporting events for our pupils to attend and compete in sports festivals. If a PE session needs to be changed it will be moved to a Wednesday and a text message will be sent out with at least 24hour notice when possible.

Thank you in advance for your support with ensuring your child is well equipped for PE lessons and we look forward to the impact PE Ready will make.

For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr Marshall / Mr Whadcoat

School Games Platinum Award

22nd July 2022Simon Marshall

We are delighted to announce that we, Wigmore Primary, have achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in
2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible. We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to all staff, pupils and parents. Massive thank you also to @LutonSchGames.

Wigmore Primary School Physical activity and sport award Winners 2022

22nd July 2022Simon Marshall

Congratulations to Roqaya (Yr.3), Daisy (Yr.6), Harley (Yr.5) & Dylan (Yr.4) Who won this category at this years Governor awards. Hugely deserved!

Roqaya (Yr.3)

She is an outstanding pupil in all aspects of PE. Thrives in every topic and challenges herself constantly. She is also an incredible athlete and has competed and won at age ranges higher than her own.

Dylan (Yr.4)

Dylan never gives up. Whatever the challenge he will always try his hardest. It is an absolute joy to watch Dylan solving problems and great to see his excitement when he achieves his goals.

Harley (Yr.5)

He thrives in all areas of PE and school sport. This hasn’t happened overnight and Harley has had to put in the hard work whether during PE lessons or in training (giving up his free time) to ensure he can be as good as he can.

Daisy (Yr.6)

“Inspirational” The point of these awards is to inspire other pupils and Daisy has definitely done that. She has been a pleasure to teach and her work ethic and drive to succeed is incredible. She is a role model for other pupils.
