Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope everyone is keeping well and has had the chance to enjoy the limited sunshine we have had this week. Many thanks for understanding our reasoning behind postponing our Sports Days this week and we hope we can have some decent weather for our reserve days next week.
Last week in our Friday afternoon assembly we introduced our value for this half term – Pride. This is all about being the best version of you and in order to do that you have to do your very best at anything you do in life. We shared with children different stories of the journeys of contestants in the final of Britain’s Got Talent and the sense of pride their families and friends would have had of these individuals and their achievements in their journey. The children are excellent at listening and contributing to assemblies, their behaviour is exemplary and they are a credit to the school.
This week in school the children in Year 1 have been busy taking part in the phonics screening. I know so many parents, carers and teachers have contributed to ensuring the children have managed this assessment well and we will communicate the results of the screening in their end of academic year reports once we have fully analysed results. We are very pleased with the progress the children have made and I would like to thank all parents for their support with any extra work they have been doing at home and with reading with their child daily. It all makes a huge difference. Well done to the children!
The children in Year 4 have also taken part in the multiplication tables check and we will be working on looking at these results next week. Well done to all who have been involved in preparing the children so well and to the children who approached this assessment with positive energy and enthusiasm.
Over the last few weeks we have had sharing assemblies from Year 2 Rowan and Year 6 Holly. Well done to the children and teachers and thanks to all parents and carers who were able to attend.
Year 2 have also had a recent visit from the fire brigade to learn about different elements of fire safety. The children thoroughly enjoyed this, thanks to the teachers who organised this opportunity for Year 2.
It has been a busy time in the sporting arena for the young people at Wigmore with Quadkids athletics, SEND Sports Festival and winning the District Sports against some high quality athletes from other schools. Next week the TAG Rugby team is taking part in the south of England finals at Franklins Gardens, home of the premiership champions – Northampton Saints. The standard of PE at Wigmore is amazing and the children rise to a challenge. Thanks to Mr Whadcoat and Mr Marshall for everything they do. Well done to our young athletes and thanks to the parents for their on-going support.

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!
At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially. We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.
Every minute of every lesson counts!
Be in to win!
Be on time and in school every day!
