Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been great to see so many parents and carers in school for recent events.
Our Sports Days were a real success and we had the benefit of the fantastic weather. Well done to the winning house (Stockwood – Green) and to all the children, staff and parents who took part in every event. Thank you to the amazing Mr Marshall and Mr Whadcoat who really do know how to organise amazing opportunities for the young people at Wigmore.
This week in school we have also been celebrating Science week with different class workshops. Speaking to the children about the workshops has shown they have really enjoyed the opportunity to learn together with their parents and carers and do something practical and fun. Thanks to Mrs Zoughi for organising this.
Last week I was invited by Year 6 children and staff to attend their Dragons Den workshop which has provided the springboard into their persuasive writing unit. The children were amazing in persuading the dragons (myself and Miss Islam) to invest imaginary money into the inventions they devised. It was amazing to see the Year 6 children converse with such confidence. Well done to all involved.
It has also been a very busy time in the sporting arena with children competing in a range of different activities and well done to all involved in competing and organising these events:
- Year 5 and 6 finished in 4th place in the county for the Quad Kids Athletics finals
- The Year 3 and 4 footballers took part in a local tournament – unbeaten in all games with some quality fast paced football on display.
- The Year 5 and 6 TAG Rugby team took part in a tournament at Franklins Gardens, home of premiership winning Northampton Saints. Details are below:
Year 1 Ash and Foundation Acorns have also shared their learning with parents and carers during our Tuesday afternoon assembly slot. Well done!
Thank you to our school governors who were in school visiting classrooms and working with senior leaders for the day last Thursday. They commented positively on the children’s attitude towards learning and witnessed some good learning opportunities taking place in a range of curriculum areas as they visited different parts of the school.
This morning we had our second parental advisory group meeting for children with special educational needs. This was an opportunity to share with them the work we have been doing this academic year as a school on improving our whole school approach to working with children with special needs. Every adult at Wigmore, every leader at Wigmore is a teacher of these children. I thank them for their contributions to our discussions.
Well done to the Year 4 children and staff for taking part in an amazing camp out on the school field this week. The overnight stay, organised by Mr Marshall, Mr Whadcoat and the staff at Adventures Into really demonstrated how everyone goes the extra mile for all the young people at Wigmore. The children had an amazing time and will have memories that will last a life time. Thank you to all involved.
