Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope everyone is well.

I understand that we are already in mid January but I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our families back to school in 2026, particularly those families who have started at Wigmore this term.

Over the last few months parents and carers have finalised their decisions about what school they would like to choose if they have a child starting in September this year. Thank you to the families who have looked around Wigmore over the last few months and thank you to the children and staff who have welcomed these visitors to our school to see learning in action.

Thank you to the parents and carers who took time out to complete our school survey. This survey will close early next week and senior staff will commence analysing the results, communicating these with our school governors and writing to parents and carers on our intentions in response to your views. Your views are important to us on our continual journey of improvement.

This week we had our termly phonics (Read Write Inc) development day. This was an excellent opportunity to see phonics learning in action and focus on the progress so many pupils are making in reading. Thank you to the parents and carers who are working incredibly hard at home to ensure they listen to their child read daily and to the teachers who are doing a great job teaching the skills of early reading. Mr Clarke works incredibly hard assessing the pupils regularly and monitoring the progress of children and this is also making a big difference.

Over the last two weeks our Year 3 pupils had the opportunity to attend the panto in Milton Keynes. The children talked positively about this opportunity and had a great afternoon out. Some of our Year 3 pupils also took part in a sports festival at Inspire and when the children take part in this type of activity they represent the school so well. Thank you to all involved who organised these opportunities.

This week we also welcomed one of our school governors, Sarah Smart, into school to spend some time looking at all the things we are doing to support children with special needs, including some time in The Orchard. Thank you to all our governors who provide the support and challenge that we need in order to continue to improve.

This week Luton Town Football Club community team have been in school working with some of our pupils to promote the EFL Smile Campaign. The Scan to Smile campaign will run from Friday 23rd to Saturday 31st January 2026. Scan to Smile is one of the key campaigns during this season. During matchdays, fans will be encouraged to scan QR codes displayed around the stadium to view short, uplifting stories from their local community – designed to lift spirits during the January blues and strengthen the connection between Clubs and supporters. Thank you to all involved in this.

Thank you to our families who are choosing active travel options to and from school and to those who consistently park in places which carefully consider the safety of our children and our local residents. Unfortunately, we still do have a minority of families who ignore our requests and we are in regular communication with Luton Borough Council Traffic Enforcement team who have been out to school this week and will be continuing with regular visits to our school.

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!

At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially.  We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.

Every minute of every lesson counts!

Be in to win!

Be on time and in school every day!
