Dear Parents and Carers,

It is hard to believe that January has already flown by and February is almost upon us. If you listen carefully, birdsong can be heard early in the morning, the afternoons are finally getting lighter, and—fingers crossed—we can hope to start seeing some less wet weather soon!

School continues to be a very busy place, full of amazing learning opportunities. Over the past fortnight, the classrooms and halls have been buzzing with activity. Here is a snapshot of what the children have been up to.

Bringing Learning to Life

We love finding ways to make the curriculum leap off the page, and the last two weeks have been no exception.

  • Virtual Reality: Years 3 and 4 were treated to an incredible Virtual Reality experience. Without leaving the classroom, they were transported back in time to Ancient Egypt and deep into the Amazon rainforest. It was a fantastic way to immerse them in their topics.
  • Conkers Class at Pizza Express: Conkers class donned their chef hats for a tasty trip to Pizza Express, learning about food preparation (and hopefully enjoying the results!).
  • Healthy Smiles: Our Reception children received a very important visit for a Dental Talk, helping to build good habits for healthy teeth from a young age.
  • World Religion Day: Today we celebrated this in our school. Thank you to the staff who created some amazing opportunities to promote tolerance and understanding of the different faiths we have in our school.

A Celebration of Talents

The school has been filled with music and smiles recently. The Rock Steady music performance was a massive hit, showcasing the children’s confidence and musical abilities. It is always wonderful to see them performing live for an audience.

We also had our School Photos taken. Thank you to everyone for sending the children in looking so smart; we hope you like the final prints.

Sporting Success

It has been an exceptionally active fortnight for our sports teams. We are incredibly proud of the resilience and teamwork displayed by all our athletes:

  • Key Stage 1 and Year 5 both took part in Multisports events, showing great energy and enthusiasm.
  • A special mention goes to our Girls’ and Boys’ football teams, who took part in the County Finals! This is a huge achievement, and they represented the school brilliantly.

Behind the Scenes

While the children have been busy learning, we have also welcomed our Governors into school. They have been conducting visits focused on our English curriculum, Phonics, and Maths. These visits are a vital part of ensuring we continue to offer the best possible education to your children.

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!

At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially.  We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.

Every minute of every lesson counts!

Be in to win!

Be on time and in school every day!
