Dear Parents and Carers,
The last few weeks seem to have disappeared very quickly, the children are doing very well in school and their behaviour for learning in and out of the classrooms has been very pleasing. I have no doubt that this will continue throughout the remainder of 2025 which is rapidly drawing to a close.
Attendance and punctuality
Over the last week I have noticed a number of pupils who continue to arrive late in school at the beginning of the school day. Classroom doors open at 8:45 am and children who arrive at this time are engaged in early morning challenge activities that support the children to achieve their full potential. Please strive to arrive at 8:45 am in order for all children to maximise every learning opportunity in the classroom.
At this time of year children can pick up coughs and colds and I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and carers of the guidance provided by the NHS on the link below. The guidance clearly states that it is fine to send your child to school with slight cough or common cold symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat or headache, as long as they’re otherwise well and do not have a high temperature.

If you do keep your child at home, it’s important to contact the school office on the first day and every day that they are off. It is important that we know that your child won’t be in and the reason for this. If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let the class teacher know.
An important part of our attendance improvement strategy is for our attendance team or school leaders to conduct home visits to help support a return to school for your child. There is a strong link between good attendance and good social, emotional and academic progress in school. We want all children to be in school so they have the best opportunity to make this progress.
Parents Evenings
Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended parents evenings and for being understanding of the technology issues that we were having with our booking system. If you were unable to make it into school on these evenings please speak to your child’s class teacher to arrange a time to discuss their progress before or after school.
Sporting success
Over the last few weeks we have had a number of Wigmore athletes take part in the events listed below, all the children represent our school brilliantly. Thanks to our organisers, well done to the children and thank you to the parents who support the children at these events.
- Year 3 and 4 Sports Hall Athletics
- Year 1 and 2 Sports Hall Athletics
- EFL Cup Schools Football Tournament
- Football matches against local opposition
Fundraising thanks
Thank you to all our families who have contributed to different fundraising opportunities over the last few weeks. Your donations to different charities go a long way to help those who are less fortunate than us. The following charities have benefited from your kindness:
- Children in Need
- The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
- British Red Cross Hurricane Melissa appeal
On Tuesday the children were incredibly respectful during our assemblies to commemorate the sacrifices made of past and current people who have served in different conflicts Britain have been involved in. The conduct and respect shown by the children and our collective hope for world peace gave us all a moment to reflect together.
Rest in peace Mr Paul
On Wednesday a group of staff and some of our parents attended the funeral of our crossing supervisor Mr Paul. Our sympathy and condolences have been extended to his family and close friends. Mr Paul was an amazing, gentle man. His willingness to laugh and smile was an excellent example to us all. Thank you to the children who took time out to write cards and messages for him, these were very special and it really shows how many people were blessed by his presence. We will miss his jokes, his smile, his positive “can do” attitude and I will miss my regular chats with him about Arsenal FC. Rest in peace Mr Paul.
Designated Senior Lead for Safeguarding
At the end of the term we will be saying farewell to Miss Godfrey our designated senior lead for safeguarding. Miss Godfrey has worked at Wigmore for past 22 years, supporting a number of children and their families very well throughout her time with us. I would like to thank her for her contribution to our school community and wish her every success for the future.
As we prepare for her departure we will be welcoming Mr Greenacre to our school community on Monday 24th November. Mr Greenacre will bring a wealth of experience to our team and will be getting to know the children, staff and families in the lead up to the Christmas holidays.
Class assembly
Well done to Acorns who did an amazing class assembly full of great songs and other learning that they have been doing in class. Well done to the children and thanks to the parents and carers who were able to join us in school for this.
CAMH Coffee Morning
Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to join us in school yesterday for our CAMH Coffee Morning. The focus of the session was how parents can be a safe space for their child, a very important concept to learn about as a parent. Thank you to Miss Godfrey for organising this session.

ATTEND TO ACHIEVE!
At Wigmore we have to aim to be here every day! Excellent attendance is 97% or above. There are strong links between good attendance and good progress in school, both academically and socially. We want to be the best we can possibly be and reach our school target of 97%. We have to make a concerted effort in order to improve attendance and punctuality.
Every minute of every lesson counts!
Be in to win!
Be on time and in school every day!
