Awesome work from our 3 cross country runners in todays yr. 6/7 boys town finals event. Jack finished 27th, Oliver 7th and Harley 3rd. With Oliver and Harley finishing in the top 10 they have both qualified for the county finals in February. Incredible effort considering it was mainly yr7 pupils. Proud teacher!
Huge well done to all the athletes who participated in the sportshall athletics town finals this afternoon. Pupils competed in several events including speed bounce, triple jump, chest push, obstacle relay, 6 lap paarlauf plus many others. WPS team performed amazingly well, narrowly missing out on the medals and county finals qualification, finishing 4th overall. Very proud of all the pupils!

Yr. 6 – Amazing work and progress this half term in both topics.
OAA – Our OAA topic focused on orienteering skills and how to use maps correctly. Pupils understand the importance of the key, compass and landmarks on a map and how this helps you to read a map. Pupils are also able to label a map and have shown such good understanding that they are able to teach others how to read a map.
Q. What is a landmark A = A singular place on a map that stands out.
Step to the beat – Pupils developed their co-ordination, rhythm and knowledge of key components of moving with music. Pupils were able to move in time with music and created own moves and exercises with the beat. Pupils understand the tempo of different music and how this effects the routine.
Yr. 5 – Outstanding from all the pupils who have made great progress this half term.
Invasion Skills – Pupils focused on defensive and attacking principles of invasion sports. They developed attacking skills by creating space in a variety of ways and understood creating space can be for yourself or a team member. Defensive skills were also challenged, with pupils investigating the defensive triangle and how to mark “touch tight”. Pupils have showed huge improvements and great understanding of invasion techniques.
Q. What is the defensive triangle? A = Defender can see ball and player they are marking.

OAA – Our OAA topic focused on what makes good teamwork and leadership qualities. This was developed through problem solving tasks which had to be planned completed together. In OAA we also learned how to read maps correctly through orienteering lessons. Pupils understand the importance of the key, compass and landmarks on a map and how this helps you to read a map.
Q. What direction must we hold a map? A = North
Yr. 4 – Well done to all the pupils who have made great progress this half term
Invasion Skills – Pupils learnt how to bounce a ball whilst static and on the move and how to keep possession. Learnt how to pass and when to use chest/bounce/shoulder passes. Pupils developed understanding of how to drive the ball forward on attack and provide support, and learned how to defend using touch tight marking and defensive triangle.
Q – Why is possession important? A = If we keep the ball longer than the other team we are more likely to win.

Step to the beat – Pupils developed their co-ordination, rhythm and knowledge of key components of moving with music. Pupils were able to move in time with music and created own moves and exercises with the beat. Pupils understand the tempo of different music and how this effects the routine.
Yr. 3 – Incredible skills on show from yr. 3 pupils this half term.
Brilliant Ball Skills – Control was the key word used this half term. We aimed to be in control of the ball and control of the situations that may occur. Pupils learnt to bounce ball whilst static and on the move, learnt under/over arm throw and when to use them in a game. Learnt about the roll of defence and attack and discussed as a team what tactics to use in a game situation.
Q. Why must I get my head up whilst dribbling? A = Look for space / Look out for tacklers / Stay in area
Striking Skills – Pupils developed their striking skills. Golf was used as the sport to help this, with discussions around what skills still apply no matter the striking sport. Pupils Learnt how to keep the ball low and how to gain Hight on their shot. We developed a striking stance and learnt about what parts of the body need to be still when striking a ball.
Q. What parts of my body should be still when striking the ball? A= Head, Both feet
KS1 – Amazing progress made by our KS1 pupils this half term!
Brilliant Ball skills – Pupils learnt basic techniques to send and receive, learnt under/over arm and bounce pass, learnt to aim with accuracy, able to change direction safely and at different speeds and were able to stop and trap the ball using both hands and feet.
Q. Before we send a ball what should we always do first? A = Aim
Skip to the Beat – Pupils discovered how to land on their feet in a variety of ways (Foot patterns). Pupils used these skills as a singular action and then progressed by performing the skills 5, 10, 15 times in a row. Pupils were then challenged to use foot patterns whilst using ropes / hoops to skip with and this helped to develop “Balance” which was one of our key words.
Q. What 4 “Foot Patterns” have we learnt this half term? A = 2>2 / 1>1 / 2>1 / 1>2
